As the Michigan State Medical Society (MSMS) House of Delegates approaches, delegates planning to attend are encouraged to participate in an upcoming Zoom training session. This training will help ensure a smooth and successful virtual meeting experience for all participants.
Delegates who would like to test the entry, chat and voting procedures in the House of Delegates zoom are welcome to join a drop by practice session on Monday, April 13, from 4:00 – 7:00 pm.
Additionally, delegates will also be able to test procedures from 7:00 – 7:45 am prior to the general session. If you are unable to attend either session and would still like to test, please contact Carrie Wheeler at 517-336-5723 or cwheeler@msms.org. Staff will attempt to accommodate requests throughout the week.
In general, zoom is easier to navigate using a desktop or laptop computer. iPads, tablets and phones will work, but the screens may look different. If you are not familiar with the chat and polling tools in zoom, you may want to attend a practice session.

Best Practices for Joining Zoom (Apple and Windows)
Apple (Mac):
- Download and install the latest version of Zoom prior to the training
- Use Safari or Chrome for best compatibility
- Ensure microphone and camera permissions are enabled in system settings
- Close unnecessary applications to improve performance
Windows (PC):
- Download and install the latest version of Zoom before joining
- Use Chrome or Edge browsers for optimal performance
- Test audio and video settings ahead of time
- Restart your computer if updates are pending
Best Practices by Device
Desktop or Laptop (Recommended):
- Provides the best experience for viewing materials, participating in chat, and voting
- Use a stable internet connection (wired if possible)
- Position camera at eye level for credentialing and participation
Tablet (iPad):
- Download the Zoom app in advance
- Ensure notifications and permissions are enabled
- Rotate to landscape mode for better visibility
Mobile Phone:
- Download the Zoom mobile app prior to the session
- Join from a strong Wi-Fi connection when possible
- Be aware that chat and voting features may be more limited on smaller screens
