RESOLVED: That MSMS advocate for an increase in the proportion of agricultural subsidies given to nutritionally valuable foods as defined by the Food, Conservation, and Energy Act of 2008 in support of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) guidelines for a healthy national diet and the goals of the Healthy Kids Healthy Michigan coalition.RESOLVED: That MSMS support educational initiatives such as Healthy Kids Healthy Michigan to address the goal of preventing child obesity and further promote healthy foods and activities.RATIONALE: This is the start of a four resolution set that were submitted by the Medical Student Section. The Committee believed that the resolution and research that went into the resolution was superb. The medical students that worked tirelessly on this resolution should be commended for their hard work. Members of the Committee truly feel that the effort that was shown by these students portray a bright future for medicine in Michigan.
