We Treat Hep C Initiative - Webinar: Managing HCV in the Context of Substance Use
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) recently launched the We Treat Hep C Initiative to eliminate hepatitis C and improve access to hepatitis C treatment among Michigan Medicaid and Healthy Michigan Plan beneficiaries. As part of the We Treat Hep C initiative, Michigan Medicaid removed the prescriber and sobriety requirement. As a result, all providers with prescriptive authority are now able to prescribe hepatitis C treatment. In addition, individuals can be treated for hepatitis C regardless of recent or current substance use.
To support Michigan's efforts to eliminate hepatitis C, AbbVie is hosting a webinar that will feature a discussion on managing hepatitis C in the context of substance use. The presentation and discussion will be led by Dr. Anthony Martinez, Medical Director of Hepatology at Erie County Medical Center at the University of Buffalo. Dr. Martinez focuses on a unique model of outreach and co-localization in order to co-manage substance use disorders and liver disease, with research targeted at developing novel models of care for hepatitis C among people who use drugs.
