STATEMENT: Medicaid cuts will affect all of us.
EAST LANSING – The following is a public statement from Dr. Amit Ghose, MD, president of the Michigan State Medical Society, in response to federal cuts to Medicaid funding passed and signed into law this past weekend.
“Medicaid covers nearly one million Michigan children, supports seniors who rely on long-term care, helps working families afford critical preventive care, and provides daily, life-sustaining services for people living with disabilities. But the truth is, the coming cuts to federal Medicaid funding will not only affect those currently on Medicaid. These cuts will affect all of us—our emergency rooms, our neighborhoods, our workplaces, and our families. It will make our communities sicker, our safety nets thinner, and our futures less certain.
“Michigan physicians are very disappointed in what was passed and signed into law this past weekend. It is a legislative plan that will hurt our patients and hurt our state.”
