STATEMENT: Health Can’t Wait Coalition on the House Health Policy Committee’s Vote on SB 247
The following is a public statement from Pino Colone, President of the Michigan State Medical Society, in response to the Michigan House Health Policy committee’s vote on March 17, 2022 to pass Senate Bill 247—legislation that reforms insurance company prior authorization practices—on to the full House.
“Thanks to the Michigan House Health Policy committee’s action on SB 247, Michigan is now another step closer to eliminating roadblocks to care for Michigan patients. We’re grateful this committee was quick to recognize the need for prior authorization reform and the benefit it will provide to Michigan patients. Health really can’t wait, and it’s encouraging to see this committee agree with that sentiment. With the bill now on its way to the full House for consideration, we look forward to the next steps in working to protect patients access to the care they need.”
Health Can’t Wait is a coalition of patients, health care providers, and patient-support groups working together to put Michigan patients first by ending dangerous delays in patients’ access to health care caused by insurance company bureaucracy, including prior authorization red tape and step therapy requirements.
