Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan (BCBSM) and Blue Care Network (BCN) have announced significant changes to their incident-to billing reimbursement policy, with implementation beginning September 1, 2026, and additional requirements taking effect March 1, 2027.
These changes may affect physician practices, behavioral health organizations, and other healthcare professionals that rely on team-based care models and incident-to billing arrangements. Concerns have been raised regarding the potential impact on practice operations, workforce development, reimbursement, administrative burden, and patient access to care.
To better understand how these policy changes may affect physicians and healthcare organizations across Michigan, MSMS is seeking feedback from members and practice leaders. Information collected will help inform ongoing advocacy efforts and discussions with BCBSM. MSMS staff recently forwarded several questions to BCBSM from inquiries we have received to date.
We encourage you to complete our brief survey and share how these changes may impact your practice. Your input is critical in helping us assess the real-world implications of the policy and identify areas of concern.
Thank you for taking a few minutes to provide your feedback and support our efforts to represent Michigan physicians and their patients. Contact Dara Barrera, Director, Health Quality, Equity and Technology at djbarrera@msms.org for more information and to share concerns regarding the policy update.
