Saginaw Physician Thomas Veverka, MD, to Serve as President-elect of Michigan State Medical Society
Thomas J. Veverka, MD, a Saginaw general surgeon, was voted president-elect of the Michigan State Medical Society (MSMS) during the 156th annual meeting of the MSMS House of Delegates annual meeting held virtually on May 1st.
Doctor Veverka recently stepped down from the position of Trauma Director at MidMichigan Medical Center. Doctor Veverka has been active in physician leadership, primarily at St. Mary’s of Michigan Hospital as well as on the Steering Committee for the General Surgery Residency, and as the Michigan State University surgical coordinator for the medical students. He belongs to the Michigan Committee of Trauma and serves as a trauma site reviewer for the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services. Doctor Veverka holds clinical faculty appointments with both Michigan State University and Central Michigan University medical schools. Additionally, he serves on the board of the Michigan Health Improvement Alliance and is a past president of the Saginaw County Medical Society. He received his medical degree from the University of Minnesota.
The Michigan State Medical Society is the statewide professional association of 15,000 physicians in Michigan and is affiliated with the American Medical Association. Physician policies on various issues involving public health, health care delivery and medical ethics are set at the annual MSMS House of Delegates meeting.
