Reorganization Update – Elimination of Mandatory Dual Membership Between MSMS and County Medical Societies

As a part of the Reorganization plan recently approved by the House of Delegates, mandatory membership in the Michigan State Medical Society (MSMS) and the county medical society has been eliminated.  Physicians can choose to join MSMS, their county medical society or both.

MSMS has committed to billing for the counties through the 2027 dues cycle.  The official turnover will take place on March 31, 2027, for 2028 dues.  However, some counties are in the process of deciding whether to bill for themselves for 2027.  That information will be shared with members prior to the August billing.

MSMS met with the County Presidents and staff on June 10, 2027, to review the transition plan.  MSMS will meet with counties again on September 24, 2027, to provide a fall update on advocacy issues and upcoming activities.  Additionally, the MSMS Foundation will be ready to accept grant applications to help assist counties with transition costs later this year.
