Medicare Contractor Advisory Committee (CAC) Member Volunteers Needed

WPS invites healthcare providers from each state within their jurisdictions to volunteer as Medicare Contractor Advisory Committee (CAC) members, or alternates, to represent your specialties during our CAC Engagement meetings. They are currently recruiting volunteers from multiple specialties.

The CAC provides a formal mechanism to inform healthcare professionals of the evidence used to consider a proposed Local Coverage Determination (LCD), and to promote communication between the Medicare Administrative Contractor (MAC) and the healthcare community. CAC members serve as jurisdictional representatives of their specialties. They review and advise the MACs on the quality of evidence used to develop proposed LCDs. Some of these responsibilities include:

  • Offering expert opinions
  • Serving as, or nominating Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) on multijurisdictional evidentiary panels for emerging medical procedures or technologies
  • Attending approximately (3) two-hour CAC Engagement meetings per year (via webinar)
  • Gathering and providing feedback on draft LCDs posted to the Medicare Coverage Database (MCD) during the Open Comment Period
  • Gathering and providing feedback on national Medicare issues
  • Disseminating information to your medical societies and peers

Members are selected to ensure no conflict of interest in their area of expertise. They are also selected to provide a broad range of experience and knowledge within their specialty. For more information, please review our CAC Orientation on YouTube. Additional information can be found on the CAC Meetings page and CAC Recruitment page of our website, www.wpsgha.com.
