November 2021 AMA Virtual Special Meeting Wrap-Up

Ongoing COVID-19 surges resulted in the cancellation of the American Medical Association (AMA) Interim meeting and the scheduling of a virtual Special Meeting to be held in its stead.  Over the period of November 12-16, 2021, the AMA House of Delegates met remotely to address 45 reports and 39 accepted resolutions.  The Michigan Delegation to the AMA is led by the leadership team comprised of Mark C. Komorowski, MD, Chair, Paul D. Bozyk, MD, Vice Chair, and Christie L. Morgan, MD, Secretary-Treasurer.

Due to the logistical challenges presented by a virtual House of Delegates meeting, the Federation was once again asked to limit items of business to issues of priority and urgency.  A Resolutions Committee scored each resolution submitted via a priority matrix.  Michigan’s resolutions are listed below.  Four resolutions were introduced and one was determined by the Resolutions Committee to meet the priority threshold.

Members of the Delegation were assigned to monitor and comment on resolutions of interest in eight reference committees.  Additionally, E. Christopher Bush, MD, chaired Reference Committee E (Science & Technology) and Theodore B. Jones, MD, served as a member of the Reference Committee on Amendments to Constitution & Bylaws.

Doctor Komorowski noted, “whether meeting in-person or remotely, the Michigan Delegation continues to influence AMA discussions and policy making through testimony, committee membership, and networking.”
