Session Spotlight: When Treatment No Longer Helps
What should happen when a patient or family requests treatment the care team believes will not benefit the patient? On Saturday, November 14, 2026, the 30th Annual Conference on Bioethics closes with a practical look at one of the most difficult questions in hospital medicine: Creating and Promoting a System-Level Non-Beneficial Treatment Policy.
Presenters Paul Bozyk, MD, and Abram Brummett, PhD, HEC-C, bring together critical care and clinical ethics perspectives. They will explore how health systems can develop and implement clear, consistent policies for situations such as unilateral do-not-resuscitate (DNR) orders, helping clinicians navigate these decisions with fairness, transparency, and support.
This session is just one highlight of three days of Michigan State Medical Society (MSMS) education at the Four Points by Sheraton Detroit Novi, November 12–14, 2026. Covering practical clinical updates, license renewal requirements, and conversations on medical ethics, the series lets you come for one day or stay for all three and earn up to 18.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™. All three days are free for MSMS members.
