As previously reported, the House of Delegates overwhelmingly passed the recommendations of the Reorganization Task Force.  MSMS will be working over the next 12 months to implement these changes in a systematic and thorough manner that includes physician input and engagement.

Board of Directors – Reducing the size of the Board of Directors from 36 to 13

A Nominating Committee is being formed to evaluate candidates and develop recommendations for the new Board of Directors.  A slate of candidates will be presented to members for a vote. If you would like to serve on the Nominating Committee, apply at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/. Applications will be accepted from May 6 – May 18, 2026.  Members intending to apply for the new Board of Directors cannot serve on the Nominating Committee.

The open call for Board of Directors candidates will be from June 5 - June 26, 2026.  The Nominating Committee will review and recommend a slate for a member vote from July 10 – July 25, 2026.  The first meeting of the new Board will take place shortly thereafter.

County Medical Societies – Eliminating mandatory dual membership

MSMS has committed to billing for the counties through the 2027 dues cycle.  The official turnover would take place on March 31, 2027, for 2028 dues.  In the meantime, MSMS will continue to share current member data and historic reimbursement data.  A meeting with

County Presidents and staff has been scheduled on June 10, 2027, to review the transition plan.  MSMS will meet with counties again on September 24, 2027, to provide our normal fall update with County Presidents on advocacy, activities and events.  The MSMS Foundation will be ready to accept grant applications to help assist with transition costs later this year.

House of Delegates – Transition to an all member policy forum

The new Policy Forum webpage, which will include resolution submission, the online forum and schedule, will be rolled out in December.  Applications for the Policy Committee will also open in December with the appointments finalized in February.  The first cycle of resolutions will begin in March.

Bylaws Updates

MSMS Legal counsel is working on a final version of the Bylaws with all of the changes adopted by the 2026 MSMS House of Delegates incorporated into one document.  This will be available on the website when completed.
