New FAQ on the MSMS Reorganization Plan

MSMS has received many thoughtful questions regarding the reorganization efforts. A new FAQ is available for delegates and members on the Reorganization Plan and Recommendations to the House of Delegates.  Please review the document here.

The MSMS Task Force on Reorganization and the Board of Directors strongly believe these changes are needed in order for MSMS to continue its current level of advocacy, service and activities for physicians. At its current trajectory, MSMS will have only 1,000 members and 3 staff in 4 to 5 years.

These recommendations will modernize governance, improve efficiency and strengthen engagement across the organization. These recommendations are data and research driven. These changes have worked in other states and would position MSMS for long-term viability.

Respectfully, MSMS physician leadership asks delegates to consider the difficult decisions that need to be made to assure there is an MSMS for future physicians.

As these recommendations require Bylaws changes, they will be submitted to the House on April 18, 2026, for decision. They include:

  • Eliminating mandatory dual membership and chartering of county medical societies
  • Replacing the House of Delegates with an all-member, year-round policy forum
  • Reducing the size of the MSMS Board of Directors from 36 to 13 members, focusing on skill-based rather than representational governance
  • Eliminating the Judicial Commission and requirement that county medical societies maintain a peer review and ethics committee
