MSMS President Encourages Students to be Involved

Doctor Ramirez, an alumna of MSUCHM, said when she was in medical school there she never imagined that one day she would be president of the Michigan State Medical Society, but that with a little encouragement from friends and colleagues at the Kent County Medical Society, she rose through the ranks to lead MSMS in its 150th year.

Doctor Ramirez said she was impressed by the turnout and by the knowledge the students already had about issues such as tort reform, GME funding, scope of practice and other issues. Many of the students at MSUCHM already have or will be attending MSMS and AMA House of Delegates meetings.

"You can be active at whatever level you are comfort," she said of organized medicine, "but you at least have to join. It's what professional do."

The entire MSMS Medical Student Section will be holding its annual Lobby Day at the Michigan Capitol on Oct. 27 to talk with legislators about GME funding, scope issues, and student debt.
