MSMS Legal Counsel Testifies on SB872 at House Law and Justice Committee Meeting
Earlier this week Legal Counsel Patrick J. Haddad, JD, testified in front of the House Law and Justice Committee in regards to Senate Bill (SB) 872, which would amend the state's current statute of limitations for civil lawsuits and impose retroactivity for cases involving minors. While emphasizing MSMS's support for a legislative response to the atrocities committed by former Michigan State University sports medicine physician, Larry Nassar, Mr. Haddad cautioned the committee that, as written, SB 872, would have far reaching, unintended consequences. SB 872 is part of a package of bills that passed the Senate in March. The House Law and Justice is expected to continue hearing testimony on the Senate-passed package as well as its own package of bills into next week.
