Earlier this month, the Michigan State Medical Society (MSMS), along with the American Medical Association (AMA) and other state and national associations, sent a joint letter to Congressional leaders encouraging the passage of legislation to strengthen the No Surprises Act.
The letter was written in response to growing reports of actions by health plans that are circumventing the Act’s intent especially related to the independent dispute resolution process by delaying payments beyond the statutory 30-day timeframe or refusing to pay. Together, MSMS and the other co-signers urged support for bipartisan, bicameral legislation (H.R. 4710/S. 2420) designed to strengthen enforcement of the No Surprises Act.
This recent letter follows an earlier message to the Secretaries and Acting Secretary of the U.S. Departments of Treasury, Health and Human Services, and Labor warning that health plans are undermining the No Surprises Act and urging federal regulators to increase enforcement and transparency.
