MSMS Foundation’s COVID-19 Conference
On Wednesday, October 6, 2021, Doctor Robert Hyzy will present on COVID-19 Respiratory Failure: Same or Different, as part of the MSMS Foundation’s COVID-19 Conference. Patients with severe COVID-19 lung disease develop hypoxemic respiratory failure. Some investigators have claimed the physiologic aspects of these patients differ from those who develop hypoxemic respiratory failure from other causes and should be treated differently on the mechanical ventilator. This lecture will examine this notion and consider whether or not COVID-19 represents a unique form of acute respiratory failure.
Doctor Hyzy is the Medical Director of the Critical Care Medicine Unit and Co-Chair of the Critical Care Committee at the University of Michigan Hospital. Doctor Hyzy is a graduate of Kenyon College and New York University School of Medicine and trained in Internal Medicine and Pulmonary Critical Care Medicine at the University of Michigan. His research interest is in the intensive care unit including patients with Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome, sepsis, and respiratory failure.
Other presentations include:
- Current State of COVID-19 in Michigan and Monoclonal Antibody Therapy
- Mental Health Outcomes after Hospitalization with or without COVID-19 During the Pandemic
- Mi-COVID19: A Collaborative Initiative to Improve the Care of Hospitalized Patients with COVID-19 in Michigan.
