MSMS Board Reviews Membership Growth, Legislative Priorities and Organizational Updates

2026 board of directors

The Michigan State Medical Society (MSMS) Board of Directors met last week at MSMS Headquarters in East Lansing. Led by Bradley J. Uren, MD, Chair, and Leah C. Davis, DO, Vice Chair, the meeting highlighted strong operational momentum for MSMS, driven by robust membership growth and new high-value organizational partnerships. Since June 2026, the Society has added 400 new members, including active physicians, retired physicians, residents, and students. Growth has been further accelerated by securing two critical institutional partnerships: a full-year enrollment package with Michigan Medicine and a new Physician Organization subscription with Aledade. To sustain this upward trajectory, MSMS announced a new recruitment campaign themed “A New Era of MSMS,” which will focus on reinforcing independent membership paths, modernizing website navigation, and launching targeted physician spotlights and podcasts.

In the legislative arena, MSMS remains dedicated to health policy and advocacy for the medical profession across Michigan. MSMS is leading opposition to House Bill 4399, which would allow nurse practitioners to practice medicine without physician supervision, and House Bill 5522, which would allow physician assistants to practice medicine without a practice agreement with a physician. Conversely, leadership expressed strong support for title-transparency efforts with House Bill 6326 and a consensus version of House Bill 5313, which aims to modernize disciplinary processes and safely optimize required continuing medical education (CME) hours.

Operational updates also focused on the notable performance of the other corporate subsidiaries: Physicians Review Organization, Professional Credential Verification Service, and Physicians Insurance Agency.
