New Measles Cases in Michigan - MMR Vaccine Reminders
In Michigan, the highly contagious viral illness Measles remains a pressing public-health concern, as emphasized by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS). The disease can spread from an infected person to up to nine out of ten nearby susceptible individuals and even linger in the air for up to two hours after the infected person leaves the room. In April 2025, MDHHS confirmed an outbreak in Montcalm County, the first in the state since 2019, prompting strong warnings from chief medical executive Dr. Natasha Bagdasarian that “two doses of the MMR (measles-mumps-rubella) vaccine offer 97% protection” and urging all Michiganders to review their immunization status. The MDHHS guidance underscores that healthcare providers and public health officials must rapidly report any suspected case, follow specimen-collection protocols, and facilitate immunization recall or catch-up efforts to prevent further spread.

COVID Vaccine Reminders
The Standing Recommendation states that any person over the age of 6 months without contraindication who has not received a dose of a U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-approved or -authorized 2025-2026 COVID-19 vaccine may be considered to have an underlying condition that puts them at high risk for severe outcomes from COVID-19 and is thus eligible to receive an age-appropriate dose without additional barriers.
Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) COVID-19 vaccine guidance aligns with leading national medical organizations, including the American Academy of Pediatrics, American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, American Academy of Family Physicians and the American College of Physicians.
