Michigan State Medical Society Supports CDC Guidelines for those Vaccinated Against COVID-19

The following is a public statement from Bobby Mukkamala, MD, president of the Michigan State Medical Society, in response to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) releasing guidelines for those who have been vaccinated against COVID-19.

We applaud the CDC for issuing clear and informative guidelines for those who have already been vaccinated against COVID-19.  People who are fully vaccinated can now start to gather and interact with each other in private settings without masks, and that is a good thing.  Still, the CDC and we agree that people should continue to take standard COVID precautions around most people and in most public settings.

“It’s important for everyone—regardless of vaccination status—to remember that we are still navigating a deadly, unprecedented pandemic.  Unfortunately, most people still have not had the opportunity to receive the vaccine and are still vulnerable to this disease. For their sake, it’s important that everyone continue to practice good social distancing habits, wear masks in public, and avoid large gatherings and nonessential travel. We’re making progress, and full progress will be realized as more and more people receive the vaccine.”
