Michigan State Medical Society on State Adding Race Date to Vaccine Dashboard
The following is a public statement from Bobby Mukkamala, MD, president of the Michigan State Medical Society, in response to the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services move to start including race data in the state’s COVID-19 Vaccine Dashboard.
“We applaud Director Hertel and the staff at MDHHS for including in the state’s COVID-19 vaccine dashboard critical information on the vaccination rates of different race categories. Several events in the last year, COVID-19 being the most obvious, brought to the forefront the need to prioritize advocacy addressing systemic policies and other contributing factors that deny historically marginalized groups equal opportunities to maximize quality of life and health outcomes. Working to advance policies that reduce disparities and improve health equity is a priority for MSMS, and the state’s decision on this vaccine data is a positive step forward.”
