MDHHS Launches New Lung Cancer Screening Toolkit
The lung cancer screening test is for current or former heavy smokers between the ages of 55-80 years of age. In Michigan, the American Cancer Society estimates that there will be 8,440 new cases of lung cancer, and 6,030 deaths due to the disease in 2016. To aid Michigan residents, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services is asking members of the Michigan State Medical Society to support these cancer screenings.
Lung cancer tests are a covered benefit under the Healthy Michigan Plan and Medicare members (to age 77). For all other insurance, residents should check with their insurance company to determine their coverage. The toolkit may be found at www.michigan.gov/cancer.
