May is Mental Health Awareness Month
Mental Health Awareness Month encourages wellness and the importance of managing mental health. As the World Health Organization declares the end of COVID-19 pandemic and the federal Public Health Emergency for COVID-19 ends, the United States faces an increased need for mental health services. In February 2023, 32 percent of adults reported symptoms of anxiety and/or depressive disorder, as did nearly 30 percent of adults in Michigan. As we collectively work to support our patients, colleagues, families, and communities, it is important to have resources available to those who are having difficulty managing the stress of everyday life. In recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month, the Michigan State Medical Society (MSMS) provides a list of resources below intended to help ease stress, anxiety, and mental fatigue. As you support your patients by encouraging the importance of mental health, MSMS hopes you will take time for self-care as well.
