Long COVID and Post Viral Syndromes Conference
The CDC and American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (AAPM&R) predict between 10-30 percent of people who had COVID-19 will go on to develop Post-Acute Sequelae of COVID-19 (PASC), also known as Long Covid. This means anywhere between three and ten million Americans are experiencing symptoms associated with a post-viral syndrome. Health care professionals can intervene sooner in the disease process with an increased understanding of post-viral syndromes and their multisystem presentation. Through implementation of an effective workup and management guidance, providers of varying specialties will see improved disease manageability and patient outcomes. On Tuesday May 24, 6:30-8:00 pm, Brayden Yellman, MD, board-certified physician in internal medicine and rheumatology with the Bateman Horn Center will discuss this complex new health crisis during a session titled, Long COVID and Post-Viral Syndromes.
Objectives of his presentation include:
- Increase understanding and recognition of viral syndromes, MD/CFS, Long COVID, and common comorbid conditions leading to earlier interventions and more effective disease management.
- Increase provider confidence and ability to manage complex patients keeping the care of the patient "at home."
- Decrease inappropriate and unnecessary specialist referrals, reducing the time of onset-to intervention ratio.
- Improve billing and coding of these complex diseases which will impact prevalence rates and subsequent funding/reimbursement demands.
- Improve patient functioning, which will decrease disability claims, expedite return to work, and decrease economic and healthcare burden.
