The Life and Legacy of Kenneth J. “Ken” Edwards, MD

Former MSMS ChairKenneth J. “Ken” Edwards, MD, 67, of St. Joseph, Michigan, lived a life defined by faith, service, and compassion. He passed away peacefully on October 5, 2025, in Santiago de Compostela, Spain.  Born in Dix Hills, New York, Doctor Edwards earned his medical degree from Upstate Medical University and served in the U.S. Navy, completing advanced training at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago and Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. His military service concluded as a Lieutenant Commander at Great Lakes Naval Hospital.

After settling in St. Joseph with his wife, Wendy, Doctor Edwards co-founded the Southwest Michigan Center for Orthopedics and Sports Medicine with James Amlicke, MD Throughout his career, he cared for countless patients and was deeply committed to improving community health, serving as Vice Chairman of the Berrien County Board of Health.  Even in retirement, he continued his service through volunteer work with the Indian Health Service. Known for his faith, humility, and mentorship, Doctor Edwards embodied the Jesuit principle of being “a person for others,” impacting colleagues, friends, and family alike.

MSMS President Amit Ghose, MD, reflected, “Ken Edwards, MD, was a dedicated and effective leader as Chair of the MSMS Board of Directors. He was an expert in business and health care policy and compassionate in caring for his patients and community.
