House of Delegates Resolution Submission Deadline is March 1
The House of Delegates (HOD) is the official legislative and policy-making body of the Michigan State Medical Society (MSMS). This year’s meeting is scheduled for April 30-May 1, at the Radisson in Kalamazoo.
Delegates were previously surveyed in August 2021. They evaluated the 2021 House of Delegates meeting and provided recommendations for an in-person meeting in 2022. At that time, the Speakers of the House committed to re-surveying delegates after the first of the year if conditions changed. It seems conditions have changed enough in the last few weeks to necessitate another inquiry.
The following survey was emailed to delegates earlier this week. It was designed to assess interest and preferences for the 2022 House of Delegates. It is the intention of your Speakers to implement the will of the House to the best of their abilities. In order to determine our next steps, delegates and members are encouraged to complete the survey.
Regardless of the format, the House of Delegates deadlines remain the same. Preliminary delegate roster are due February 1, 2022, and resolutions are due March 1, 2022 through the online submission form. Authors of previously submitted resolutions that were not selected by the Resolution Review Committee for deliberation in 2020 and 2021, should contact Carrie Wheeler for resubmission.
As a reminder, resolutions debated during the annual HOD are the vehicles by which MSMS policies, priorities, and directives are determined. The best way to get your idea or recommendation adopted as a Society policy or directive is at the grassroots level. As a member in good standing, you have the right to bring your ideas to the annual HOD for consideration by the Society's "legislators." To do so, present your suggestion and rationale at your county medical society, specialty society, or section meeting. If the county, specialty society, or section agrees, they will work with you to draft a resolution to be presented at the next HOD meeting. The resolution should specify the desired Society policy or directive for Society action. You may also ask another delegate to submit a resolution on your behalf as an individual delegate. It is also prudent to check the Society's current Policy Manual and, if relevant, the AMA Policy Finder to determine if policy currently exists.
