Five LARA Boards Recognized as a Wellbeing First Champion
The Dr. Lorna Breen Heroes’ Foundation recently notified the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) that five of their licensing boards - Medicine, Osteopathic Medicine & Surgery, Dentistry, Nursing, and Pharmacy - are recognized as a Wellbeing First Champion for 2025. Only a handful of other states have earned this status across all of the professional health care licensing boards evaluated by the Foundation.
According to the Foundation, this designation means that the Michigan Boards of Medicine, Osteopathic Medicine & Surgery, Dentistry, Nursing, and Pharmacy‘s licensing applications are free from overly broad, unnecessary, intrusive, and stigmatizing language about mental health care and treatment. As a result, Michigan’s health care professionals can rest easier knowing they can receive needed mental health care without fear of unnecessarily losing their professional license.
Verification that applications contain no invasive or stigmatizing language about mental health is confirmed annually by ALL IN: Wellbeing First for Healthcare, a coalition of leading health care organizations that works to eliminate barriers for industry workers seeking to access mental health care.
The Michigan State Medical Society congratulates LARA on this recognition and applauds their licensing application policy which supports equal privacy in mental health care for physicians and other health care professionals.
