Delegates Vote for In-Person House of Delegates and Resolution Submission Deadline is March 1
The House of Delegates (HOD) is the official legislative and policy-making body of the Michigan State Medical Society (MSMS). This year’s meeting is scheduled for April 30-May 1, at the Radisson Plaza Hotel at Kalamazoo Center.
House of Delegates Survey Results: The House of Delegates survey, open from January 24 – February 7, achieved consensus about how to proceed with the 2022 meeting. In a vote of 57 percent to 40 percent, delegates have chosen to meet in-person, at the Kalamazoo Radisson, on April 30 – May 1, 2022. Additionally, MSMS will implement requirements regarding health screenings, masks, vaccines, and social distancing as requested by delegates. Much more information will shared regarding these mitigation measures as we get closer to the meeting.
Knowing many delegates may not be comfortable attending the House this year, your speakers will provide additional opportunities for participation before and during the meeting such as the online testimony forum and a live feed from the Sunday session. The survey results can be found here.
Hotel Reservations by April 7: Please visit www.msms.org/hod or call 269-343-3333 (mention MSMS for group rate) as soon as possible to ensure you are provided with accommodations. If you belong to a staffed county, please check with your executive first. Several counties make reservations for their delegation. Reservations are due no later than April 7.
RSVP by April 7: It will be even more important to indicate your attendance this year to allow for appropriate planning for social distancing and to assure a quorum. Please click here or visit www.msms.org/hod and complete the form to RSVP.
Resolutions by March 1: Resolutions are due by March 1, 2022, this includes any 2020 or 2021 resolutions to be resubmitted. Resolutions received after March 1 will be considered late resolutions and will be referred to Committee C- Internal Affairs, Bylaws, and Rules. Reference Committee C will meet on Saturday morning at 9:00 am.
Handbook Material: The official handbook will be available on the MSMS website and will be emailed to you on Monday, April 4. The House of Delegates app will be ready mid-April. Please click here to view the preliminary Order of Business.
Reference Committees: Reference Committees will take testimony on Saturday from 10:00 am – 12:30 pm. The Reference Committee on Ways and Means, and Reference Committee C- Internal Affairs, Bylaws, and Rules will begin at 9:00 am.
To provide an additional opportunity for member input and to accommodate delegates who are not able or comfortable attending, MSMS will again allow written testimony prior to the meeting. The online testimony forum will be available starting Monday, April 11, 2022, and will be shared with the Reference Committees prior to the House.
If you are interested in serving on a Reference Committee, please contact Carrie Wheeler by March 1, 2022.
(New this Year) President’s Reception: Please join your colleagues in a reception honoring the 157th president, Thomas J. Veverka, MD. The afternoon event will begin immediately following the AMA Town Hall on Saturday from 3:30 – 5:00 pm. The event is free and open to spouses and guests. Dress for the reception is the same as the House of Delegates.
