The midterm elections are just four days away and the Michigan State Medical Society (MSMS) strongly encourages all physicians to make sure to vote. Thanks to Michigan’s early-voting provisions, in-person voter registration through Election Day, and no-reason absentee ballots, voters have several options for casting a ballot in Michigan.
Ways to Vote in Michigan
- Vote by absentee ballot. All registered voters in Michigan have the right to vote by absentee ballot. Absentee ballots became available 40 days before Election Day. At this point, it is best to return any outstanding absentee ballots via a secure drop box, in person at the voter’s local clerk’s office, or at an assigned early-voting site. Returning an absentee ballot by mail is not recommended within 14 days of an election. All ballots must be received by 8:00 pm on Election Day, November 3, 2026.
- Vote early in person. Statewide early voting has been available in Michigan since the 2024 presidential primary. For the November 3, 2026, general election, the mandatory early-voting period runs from October 24 through November 1. Some communities may offer additional early-voting days. Voters can find their assigned early-voting locations and hours through the Michigan Secretary of State.
- Vote on Election Day. All registered Michigan voters can vote at their assigned polling place on Election Day, November 3, 2026.
Eligible Michigan residents who still need to register may do so in person at their city or township clerk’s office through 8:00 pm on Election Day with proof of residency.
