In Case You Missed It — MSMS 2025: A Year in Review

As 2025 ended, the Michigan State Medical Society (MSMS) marked a year of growth, engagement, and advocacy on behalf of physicians across the state. From expanding membership and educational opportunities to strengthening advocacy efforts and operational support, here’s a look back at the highlights that shaped MSMS in 2025.

Membership Wins

In 2025, MSMS continued to expand its community of physicians and practices. A total of 1,248 new members joined the society, and 17 new 100% member groups were added, fueling greater engagement and impact across Michigan.

Statewide Educational Support

MSMS delivered robust continuing medical education throughout the year:

  • 308 physicians attended in-person conferences.
  • 483 members participated in live virtual courses.
  • More than 6,300 physicians utilized our on-demand educational resources including a library of over 120 webinars.

The most attended courses focused on Human Trafficking, Combating Institutional Bias, and Pain and Symptom Management, and all MSMS education programming remains free to members.

Advocacy at the Capitol and Beyond

MSMS helped to amplify physician voices in Lansing and Washington:

  • 345 bills were monitored.
  • MSMS advocates provided 26 testimonies and sent 4,927 advocacy emails.
  • 78 legislative meetings were held, and 28 physicians took part in Advocacy Day.

These efforts underscore MSMS’s commitment to shaping policy that reflects clinical expertise and supports patient-centered care.

On the practice front, MSMS actively pursued physician interests through payer engagement, legal guidance, and collaborative partnerships. Highlights included:

  • 12 letters to legislators and regulators on payment, Medicaid, telehealth, and other critical issues.
  • 20+ insurer meetings with major carriers like BCBSM/BCN, HAP, and Medicaid.
  • Participation in numerous advisory boards and coalitions focused on immunizations, opioid stewardship, and more.
  • New legal alerts and updated practice resources, including guidance on immigration enforcement and creditors’ rights. Michigan State Medical Society

Subsidiary Strength and Member Support Services

MSMS’s subsidiary companies continued to play a key role in financial and operational stability:

  • Physicians Insurance Agency (PIA) sold 1,135 policies with more than $28 million in premiums.
  • Physicians Review Organization (PRO) completed 3,072 medical reviews for 170 clients.
  • Professional Credentials and Verification Services (PCVS) processed 4,900 applications for 65 clients.
  • MSMS launched a new Preferred Partner Program featuring 12 endorsed vendors to support practice needs.

These subsidiaries help fund nearly half of MSMS’s overall expenses, reinforcing the society’s ability to deliver advocacy, education, and member services.

Your MSMS membership makes this work possible. Because of your support, physicians have a strong, unified voice in advocacy, access to high-quality education, and the resources needed to navigate today’s health care challenges.
