Beaumont Hospital Dearborn Perinatal Infectious Disease Clinic
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services is in partnership with Beaumont Hospital Dearborn, Perinatal Infectious Disease Clinic (PIDC) to provide direct services to Michigan’s Women, Infants, Children, and Youth (WICY) population who are affected by HIV. The PIDC was founded in 1991 and has reopened to provide specialty services and care to HIV positive women.
Dr. Theodore Jones is the founding Medical Director and has worked in Perinatal HIV Infection for over 30 years in Southeast Michigan. The clinic is located at Beaumont Hospital Dearborn and is funded by the MDHHS Ryan White program.
The PIDC is supported by a team that includes Dr. Jones, an advanced practice professional, a RN, a case management/social work professional, and a medical assistant. The team is committed to achieving optimal health outcome for mother, baby, and the needs of her family.
Services provided are:
- Infectious disease specialist care for mother and baby affected by HIV
- Prenatal care for mothers with perinatal infections (including hepatitis B and C, TB, and syphilis)
- Pre-pregnancy consultation for reproductive counseling for serodiscordant couples affected by HIV
- Counseling regarding the use of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP)
- Facilitation of access to a free breast milk program
Providers are encouraged to refer pregnant women who are living with HIV to the clinic. Providers also have the option of consultations and co-managing the patient’s care.
The PIDC mission is to provide compassionate, evidence-based care and services to ensure continuity of care and optimal outcomes for patients.
