August is National Immunization Awareness Month
August is National Immunization Awareness Month. Below are tools that may help when explaining the importance of vaccines to your patients and their families:
- The MyHealthfinder vaccine resource can help you learn about vaccines your patients and your own family need to stay healthy.
- At Healthy People 2030 Vaccination, you can learn about national efforts to increase vaccination rates.
- Adult Vaccination Assessment Tool will also help you your patients determine what vaccines they may need.
MSMS has long supported efforts to improve immunizations. We have received grant dollars from MDHHS for many years to support their efforts. Below is a summary of what MSMS has done to help improve vaccine awareness.
- Immunization grant messaging
- Send out directed messages from the Immunization Division of MDHHS to a list of more than 3,000
- Attend Michigan Advisory Committee on Immunization meetings quarterly
- Attend Association of Immunization Managers meetings quarterly
MSMS’s participation in and support of immunization work prior to the pandemic created valuable relationships with key individuals and groups which has helped with our COVID vaccine advocacy efforts.
- Representation on the Immunization Restart Committee – a multi-disciplinary committee including representatives from MDHHS, Michigan Association of Local Public Health, Local Public Health, emergency managers, Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices, education and more.
- Started as a way to get our children up to date on vaccines, but quickly pivoted to all things COVID vaccine.
- Facilitation of meetings with key leaders from the MDHHS Immunization Division
- Active role in Physician Organization leadership calls for COVID vaccine
- Attend Michigan Health Action Network COVID vaccine update calls
