Whether it is advocating on legislation, addressing payment concerns with health plans and insurers, or making sure physicians are represented, the MSMS Advocacy team is working on your behalf. The following are some recent highlights:
- Presented the MSMS report, Strengthening Health Care Delivery in Michigan: Physician Workforce Recommendations, to the Michigan Multipayer Initiatives Steering Committee.
- Signed on to joint letters advocating support for H.R. 8163, the “provider Reimbursement Stability Act,” and H.R. 4710/S. 2420, the “No Surprises Act Enforcement Act.”
- Participated in the Michigan for Vaccines coalition launch. The coalition will coordinate science-based education and advocacy efforts and align stakeholders around a shared mission of advancing policies that support healthy communities for all Michigan residents and ensuring every family has access to accurate information about the lifesaving benefits of vaccines.
- Represented MSMS at the Capitol, with staff present at various hearings and other meetings to monitor developments, provide expertise, and advocate for physician and patient priorities across a range of policy issues. This included ten meetings with legislators, eleven coalition meetings, and the Board of Medicine meeting.
- Co-hosted a Lunch and Learn session – Investing in Primary Care in Michigan – to provide legislators and their staff with key information on this topic. Our partners in this effort were the Milbank Memorial Fund, Michigan Multipayer Initiatives, University of Michigan School of Public Health, and Representatives John Longjohn, MD, (D-Portage) and Doug Wozniak (R-Shelby Township).
- Engaged with BCBSM, Michigan Medicaid, Health Alliance Plan, and Meridian on timely issues of concern to physicians, including, but not limited to, incident to billing and upcoming Medicaid work requirements.
- Began meetings with multiple payors to inform them of a payment update for Radiation Oncology services that was released effective January 1, 2026. Many plans have not updated their payment policies and are using outdated amounts for codes related to these specific services.
- Represented MSMS on the Medicaid Advisory Committee where the state budget, mental health framework, and H.R. 1 requirements were discussed.
- Presented a BCBSM and legislative issues update to the Genesee County Medical Society’s Practice Managers’ Group.
