Advocacy in Action
Whether it’s advocating on legislation, addressing payment concerns with health plans and insurers, or making sure physicians are represented, the MSMS Advocacy team is working on your behalf. The following are some recent highlights:
- Urged opposition to H.R. 3164, the “Ensuring Community Access to Pharmacist Services (ECAPS) Act” in a joint letter from the American Medical Association (AMA) and numerous state and specialty associations due to concerns that the bill would inappropriately allow pharmacists to perform services that would normally only be authorized and covered if they were furnished by a physician, testing and treating patients for certain illnesses and expanding Medicare payment for pharmacists in limited but significant ways.
- Joined the American Medical Association and 77 other medical societies on an open letter to the American people reaffirming our support for vaccination as the best way to protect against the flu, COVID-19, RSV, and their potentially serious complications. The letter also urges other health care partners to help to ensure vaccines remain available and insurance covered.
- As part of the Coalition of State Medical Associations, sent a letter to the U.S. Senate regarding the Medicaid reductions, the medical student loan cuts, and the failure to address Medicare physician payment.
- Engaged in meetings with BCBSM, Molina, and Priority Health.
