Addressing Health Equity in Michigan Webinar Series

The Michigan State Medical Society is excited to introduce the "Addressing Health Equity in Michigan Webinar Series." This new program, supported by funding from the State of Michigan, offers essential educational resources on this critical topic.

The first three webinars in the series are now available:

  1. Implicit Bias and its Impact on Health Equity
  2. DEI: Past, Present, and Future
  3. Beyond Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion: The Power of Intersectionality in Addressing Bias

Presented by Lynn Smitherman, MD and Latonya Riddle-Jones, MD, MPH, each one-hour webinar fulfills the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) implicit bias training requirement.

Meet the Presenters
Doctor Smitherman is an associate professor of Pediatrics at Wayne State University School of Medicine, where she holds key leadership roles as Vice Chair of Medical Education and Vice Chair of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. She earned her undergraduate degree from McGill University and her medical degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. She completed her residency in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics and a Chief Residency in Pediatrics at Wayne State University Affiliated Hospitals.

Doctor Latonya Riddle-Jones is the Vice-Chair of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion for the Department of Internal Medicine and an assistant professor of medicine at Wayne State University School of Medicine. She also serves as the Medical Director at Corktown Health. Specializing in Internal Medicine/Pediatrics and LGBTQ+ Health, she received her undergraduate degree from Michigan State University, her medical degree and residency training from Wayne State University School of Medicine, and a Master of Public Health from Harvard T. H. Chan School of Public Health.
