RESOLVED: That the Michigan Delegation to the AMA ask the AMA to work with the United States government to provide a Social Security number in a timely fashion to foreign physicians with a work-related visa, upon lawful entry to the United States, for any purposes. REFERENCE COMMITTEE RATIONALE: Based upon the testimony given, the Committee amended the resolved to clarify the phrase “lawful entry.” As originally written, “lawful entry” would include all visitors legally in the United States.
