On behalf of: Oakland County Delegation

Committee: B (Legislation)

Resolved Section(s):
RESOLVED: That MSMS go on record as being strongly opposed to texting while operating a motor vehicle because of the inherent dangers involved; and be it furtherRESOLVED: That the Michigan Delegation to the AMA ask that the AMA implement a policy that strongly opposes texting while operating a motor vehicle; and be it furtherRESOLVED: That MSMS seek legislation that would prohibit texting while operating a motor vehicle.RATIONALE: The Committee heard no testimony on this resolution. It was the sense of the Committee that the recent actions of the Michigan legislature related to banning text messaging have alleviated the need for further action by MSMS on this subject. Public Act 60 of 2010 that makes text messaging while driving a primary offense has been passed by the legislature and signed into law by the governor.
