RESOLVED: That MSMS work with the state of Michigan to study testing of neonates for Alpha 1 antitrypsin deficiency as part of the standard newborn screening panel and offer testing when it becomes practical with respect to specificity, sensitivity, and cost effectiveness.RATIONALE: Michigan, through the Newborn Screening Advisory Group, leads the country with the process and number of tests included in newborn screenings. Currently, the state newborn screening consists of 46 tests. The Committee requested that this group of experts include the testing when it meets the criteria outlined in the resolved.
