Resolution Number: 76
Action Taken: Referred to the Board
Status:
Author(s): Brian Silver, MD
Sponsor: Brian Silver, MD
On behalf of: Wayne County Delegation
Committee: E (Science & Education Affairs)
Resolved Section(s):
RESOLVED: The MSMS support legislation that would require emergency medical services to take suspected stroke victims directly to the nearest primary stroke center when such centers are available within a 60-minute driving radius. RATIONALE: The Committee heard a great deal of opposing views. Concerns were raised including the effects on smaller hospitals; emergency medical services making decisions regarding treatment of stroke patients; and the 60-minute time requirement. Given the complexity of this issue, the Committee concluded that referral to the Board, with action within one-year, was the best route in order to formulate an appropriate strategy to address this issue.
