RESOLVED: That MSMS seek legislation to amend Public Act 47 to eliminate exceptions for copying medical records for any and all parties requesting copies of medical records.RATIONALE: The scope of this resolution was broader than the resolved portion indicated. The Committee acknowledged that the exemptions requested in the resolved clause would contradict third party payer contracts which allow them access to medical records for covered services, would eliminate the exemption for indigent patients, and would contradict separate state regulations governing the fees charged for Worker’s Compensation cases.
