RESOLVED: That the Michigan Delegation to the AMA ask the AMA to pursue federal regulation requiring all health insurance companies to use precise, uniform language and codes in the claims process.RATIONALE: The Committee recognized that there is existing AMA policy on uniform billing codes and terminology. Therefore, the resolution would be viewed as a reaffirmation of AMA policy. Additionally, it is the Committee’s understanding that the recently enacted federal health care reform legislation includes provisions on the standardization of claims processing.
