RESOLVED: That the Michigan Delegation to the AMA ask the AMA to work with the National Practitioner Data Bank (or a similar credentialing data source) and state licensure boards to provide adequate information and ease of access for volunteer organizations to check the veracity of physicians’ credentials at no cost or nominal fee; and be it furtherRESOLVED: That the Michigan Delegation to the AMA ask the AMA to initiate and oversee cooperative effort among state licensure boards to allow short-term (fewer than 90 days) licensure and indemnity across state lines for volunteer physicians who wish to assist any organizations providing health care to the uninsured, regardless of the affiliation of the organization.REFERENCE COMMITTEE RATIONALE: The Committee believes that this is a reasonable request to seek better coordination among the states to permit volunteer physicians to provide free care in other states.
