RESOLVED: That the Michigan Delegation to the AMA request that our AMA evaluate the safety of current whole body scanners used in airports; and be it furtherRESOLVED: That the Michigan Delegation to the AMA request that our AMA organize a consensus conference involving the divergent views on the use of whole body scanners and public safety.RATIONALE: The Committee heard testimony from radiologists who stated that at least two studies have been conducted, which concluded that radiation exposure from full body scanners is minimal. In light of this testimony, the Committee did not believe it would be worth the cost of organizing a consensus caucus.
