RESOLVED: That MSMS work with the state legislature and the attorney general to come up with a system where patients admitted to extended care facilities in Michigan can be given Schedule II-V controlled substances on the basis of a written order from physicians with a valid Drug Enforcement Administration license; and be it furtherRESOLVED: That the Michigan Delegation to the AMA ask the AMA to work with the federal government and Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) to legitimize prescriptions of Schedule II-V controlled substances to patients admitted in extended care facilities on the basis of written orders by physicians with a valid DEA license. RATIONALE: The Committee raised more questions than answers with respect to the necessity of this resolution and what it seeks to accomplish.
