Action Taken: Approved as Amended

Status:

Author(s): Donald R. Peven, MD

Sponsor: Donald R. Peven, MD

On behalf of: Oakland County Delegation

Committee: E (Science & Education Affairs)

Resolved Section(s):
RESOLVED: That the Michigan Delegation to the AMA ask the AMA to seek legislation that will increase restrictions on direct-to-consumer advertising of prescription medications.RATIONALE: The Committee had some concerns regarding how equal prominence would be implemented and that it might lead to less emphasis on the adverse affects. The resolution as amended allows the flexibility of highlighting other potential problems with direct-to-consumer advertising. In addition, the Committee was unclear on how the specific request in the original resolution would be implemented. The Committee heard no dissenting testimony on this resolution.
