Resolved Section(s):
RESOLVED: That MSMS work with the legislature to use MAPS or some other mechanism to allow treating health professionals to verify if a patient is registered on the Michigan Medical Marijuana Registry.RATIONALE: The Committee agreed with the underlying premise of this resolution which is to provide physicians with additional clinical information regarding their patients similar to that provided by the Michigan Automated Prescription System (MAPS) program. This resolution seeks to somehow add marijuana to the MAPS program which would allow physicians to know if their patients are registered to use medical marijuana. The resolution was amended in order to provide some flexibility for the implementation of this proposal. Specifically, the Committee was concerned that MAPS may not be a feasible way for physicians to obtain this information. Transactions are entered into MAPS by the pharmacist. Because there is no contact with a pharmacist when obtaining medical marijuana, the Committee was unsure if MAPS were the best route and allowed for an alternative way to implement this proposal if needed. Additionally, the Committee was not inclined to support the regulation of all schedule 1 drugs and deleted that portion of the resolved as well. The Committee concluded that the amended resolution maintains the original intent of the author, while the changes provide the best opportunity for this resolution to proceed.
