RESOLVED: That the Michigan Delegation to the AMA ask the AMA to seek policy from the Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations to mandate that hospitals maintain non hospital-employed, practicing physician membership on their operating boards.REFERENCE COMMITTEE RATIONALE: The Committee recognized that there are issues with hospitals and the composition of their governing boards that can be addressed by the AMA. The Committee felt that there needs to be a fair and equitable representation of employed and non-employed physicians on all hospital governing boards in order to ensure parity.
