RESOLVED: That MSMS oppose any pay for performance program/plan unless it is approved and planned by physicians; and be it furtherRESOLVED: That a pilot pay for performance program be designed by MSMS that is planned and approved by physicians.RATIONALE: The Committee believed that the following language already included in the MSMS Guidelines on Pay-for-Performance Programs addresses the intent of the resolution:“Practicing physicians with expertise in the area of care in question must be integrally involved in the design, implementation, and evaluation of any program. All performance measures must be developed and maintained by appropriate professional organizations that periodically review and update these measures with evidence-based information in a process open to the medical profession and other stakeholders.” (Page 3
