RESOLVED: That the Michigan Delegation to the AMA ask the AMA to engage the U.S. Surgeon General and the Secretary of Health and Human Services in the next six months to make them aware of our ethical concern regarding being required to perform procedures or treatments that directly conflict with the physician’s personal beliefs and codes of ethics.REFERENCE COMMITTEE RATIONALE: The Committee was informed that this resolution was in conflict with the AMA’s recent decision to support President Obama’s proposal to rescind the final rule entitled “Ensuring That Department of Health and Human Services Funds Do Not Support Coercive or Discriminatory Policies or Practices in Violation of Federal Law.”
