RESOLVED: That the Michigan Delegation to the AMA ask the AMA to work with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and other payers to foster discussions and formulate viable options for bundled payments so that practicing physicians and specialists’ interests and efforts are valued in various settings and seamless coordinated care is delivered to improve the overall quality of care; and be it furtherRESOLVED: That the Michigan Delegation to the AMA ask the AMA to examine and issue an informational report on the various issues related to bundled payments including but not limited to the risks, opportunities, and potential need for guidelines with the goal to minimize conflict among physicians, hospitals, and plans.RATIONALE: The Committee acknowledged that there is existing AMA policy, as the issue of bundled payments has been under serious discussion at the AMA for the past several years. Because this issue is evolving and there are demonstration projects, the Committee agreed an informational report would be of value.
